Supernatural!

I'm writing this from vacation in St. Maarten. Yay!! This is a ridiculously lovely place. And family hasn't been driving us TOO crazy, so that's a bonus. There was an unfortunate incident with the bumper of the rental car (it got torn off) and my niece dumped an entire plate of spaghetti on the rug, leaving a noticeable stain, but other than that it has been lovely.

Anyhow, I managed to watch the latest episode of Supernatural last night and I really liked it!!! It's so nice to be able to say that again!

[Spoiler (click to open)]Charlie was cute and sweet and her story was touching. Sam was aggravatingly stubborn in his flailing incompetence. And Dean ... aw, Dean. I so loved it when Charlie said she loved him and he responded like he did. Then went in and hugged Sam. I may actually have to watch that one again!

My, oh my what a day. I started the day coming up with a great idea for a series of children's books. The actual writing of them is fairly easy but it's the research and proposal and publisher querying that will be tough. But I'm hopeful. Wee!

My daughter called in the afternoon. She's having a girl - yay!!! Due date is Aug 14. Man, that's soon! This was sort of an accidental pregnancy, as in, she wanted another baby but not quite so soon. Daniel will turn two in May - wow, she will be even more crazy busy. That's why you should have kids while young, in my opinion. They are freaking exhausting.

I've been kind of moody and bitchy again today. Hormones or something, I guess. It makes me sing this song:

Back from WonderCon

I returned from WonderCon on a high! It was so much fun - no lines, lots of good friends, helpful writing panels, TV panels filled with pretty people, what's not to like? My friend Caroline and I schmoozed various TV execs and I decided to use my Teen Wolf fanfic to write a spec for the upcoming ABC/Disney TV Writing contest.

For a few piccies, click here.

I especially liked the Vikings panel. Travis Fimmel alternated between being sly and lascivious and endearingly boyish about how he gets to run around with an axe on the show. The girl who plays Lagertha talked about how she's a martial arts enthusiast, and the guy who plays the slave Athelstan related how the threesome invitation scene was his very first scene with Ragnar and Lagertha: in it, he didn't have to feign terror! I was able to watch this week's episode on Monday night. Other than the second episode, I am thoroughly enjoying this show. What other show has canon threesomes? The characterization is improving and I'm fairly happy with the historical accuracy. The exec mentioned that the network was very happy with the ratings numbers, so it's likely that it will be renewed for a second season.

The Teen Wolf panel was okay, although the only attendees were the showrunner, and the guys who play Scott and Stiles. I'm blanking on their names. Anyhow, the actor who plays Scott is about as clueless as you would expect from watching him play his character. The showrunner had to tell him what LGBT meant. He was sweet and enthusiastic, though. The kid who plays Stiles was rather monosyllabic in his responses - I expected him to be more excitable and talkative but I guess he's just a good actor.

I don't remember much about the Arrow panel except about how the last two episodes of the season are supposed to have extra budgets for extra fabulousness. Oh, and the actor playing Tommy is quite possibly the prettiest man ever.

The high was over today, though. I had to spend time on the phone with IT, visit both the dentist and the chiropractor, take a sick bird to the vet, deal with some depression, and navigate various and sundry family drama. Sigh. Tomorrow will be better, though.

WonderCon!

I'm off to WonderCon this weekend! Very excited! It's sort of a mini Comic Con. The cast for Teen Wolf, Vikings, and Arrow will be there and I'll be in the audience of all three! Anyone else going? Look for pics soon!

TV and Books and Natterings

Hello my lovelies!

I haven't flailed about TV lately, so here goes. If you're not caught up on these shows some of this could be considered spoilery, so beware:

Yukon Men - is anyone watching this? I LOVE this show. It's basically reality tv (on Discovery Channel) about a remote Alaskan village of 300 that is accessible only by air. The men and women there are on their own in almost every sense of the word. They live a subsistence lifestyle that includes dog sledding, hunting, and trapping as a means of survival. I guess I love it so much because both my parents were raised on farms and have a do-it-yourself mentality. My mother even built a couch herself and replaced the headliner in her car. Whoa! Anyhow, the show features derring do and father/son conflicts and so forth. There are even a couple of women featured. Kick ass tough women, of course.

Arrow - I loved the pilot and started watching the show every week but after a while it seemed sort of repetitive and uninspiring, so I began deleting it from my DVR. I don't watch much tv, really, so I need to maximize my tv viewing hours. I HAVE been watching the last three episodes, though, and I'm quite happy about the show. First, for a completely shallow reason. Holy God, but the show is full of pretty, pretty, PRETTY people. Plus I may have lingered on this one scene of a shirtless Oliver in tight leather pants laying on a table. Mmmmm good. Plus, Diggle's arms are the size of tree trunks! Wow! Also, Colton Haynes, Jackson on Teen Wolf, played a kid from the wrong side of the tracks[Spoiler (click to open)]and I read that he's going to be a regular next season..There's a little bit too much soap opera in the show but I am enjoying that flashback Australian guy. His is Australian, right? I'm bad with accents sometimes. Oh, and Felicity is charmingly blunt and awkward.

The Walking Dead - What can I say here but: MICHONNE, you are getting more and more awesome each week! And Daryl, hubba hubba, you sweet thang, you. Rick, I would be a psycho, too, if I went through what you did. Also, I love the way Glen is really becoming competent as a fighter.

Supernatural - Oh, Supernatural. I can't seem to quit you. I am not happy at all with the way Sam has been characterized lately and I would really love to have the OLD Sam back. But I also love Dean/Castiel and Misha so I'm looking forward to Cas coming back.[Spoiler (click to open)]And for his return as a regular next season.

The Vikings - I'm not sure about this one yet. I liked the first episode, but I was unimpressed with the second episode - it was hackneyed and kind of dumb, in my opinion. But I'll watch the third ep before deciding whether to continue with it. Because, Vikings. I love the idea of a show about Vikings and the historical details seem fairly well done.

I'm trying to become more active on Goodreads, so if you're over there, feel free to add me. Same goes with twitter, although I don't really talk about fandom there, mainly just audiobooks, writing and publishing.

I basically just asked for a 70% raise on my current freelance project. And actually received it. Now, before you get too excited, that takes me from around $12 per hour to around $20 per hour. $20 is low for a skilled writer but $12 is ridiculous.

I made a resolution this year to shift my freelance work to more creative content and this is my first project with that goal in place. Yay!! Not a bad start.

I just returned from a trip to Arizona and New Mexico. While in Arizona I of course visited my family. My mother gave me a gift, a book called: Our Bodies After 60.

I'm 46.

Holy moley! An episode of Supernatural that I really, truly LIKED!

[Spoiler (click to open)]Wow, I have to say I'm sort of impressed. I liked Henry and the new storyline that opens up is intriguing. We'll see how it goes. I was kind of resigned to the show being renewed for 5 more seasons and being mediocre the whole while, but hope springs eternal and maybe this will breathe life back into the show.

I was kind of bummed that they cut off Girl!Abadon's head. She was GORGEOUS. Also, why didn't they even mention Grandma Winchester?

In other news, Sam in particular was very pretty tonight but it looked like his face was tanned except for an area around his eyes, like maybe he had sunglasses on in the tanning booth or something. Did anyone else notice that?

Poll time!

I'm going to try to post this to LJ from DW ... hope I can figure it out.

Anyhow, I'm in the midst of writing a medieval adventure with a gay love subplot. Woo hoo!! I'm having a conundrum over the main character's name. The time period is 700 AD, in Britain, Gaul, Italy, basically the Mediterranean. 700 AD is right smack in the middle of the Dark Ages.

Hmmm. I don't see a poll option? I don't know what I'm doing, apparently, lol. Anyhow, please reply in comments. Which name resonates more with you?

Even More Movies!
SPN - Dean looking sideways

I'm on vacation right now and rather than writing on my WIP like I should be I'm watching movies!! I watched TWO today. I wasn't going to watch the second one but then I managed to jam a razor blade a considerable distance into my hand and the resultant blood and pain meant that I couldn't do anything but sit around watching a movie and eating ice cream for a couple of hours. I'm better now though, so no worries.
